Hi guys,

I just built* this router table with a router table top that my grandfather left behind when he passed away.

As you can see, the insert plate is missing the circular center inserts. I can't find them anywhere. I have no info on the manufacturer of the insert plate so I don't know how to look up the part specifically. Are these in any way universal? I don't want to buy a new insert plate because a) he's got it perfectly flush and b) $$. Is my only choice to make my own? Thanks for any suggestions.

*by "built" I mean screwed a router table top my grandfather built onto a tool stand I had lying around.

I don't think those inserts are universal. However, somebody here may recognize the plate.

What is the diameter of the insert?
Are there provisions around the edge of the plate to hold the insert in place? Like locking tabs or threads?

The fence is Freud perhaps the insert is Freud also.

Another clue that may help identify the manufacture is the diameter and thickness of the insert. Post the measurements.

It looks a bit like a Woodhaven plate I have that takes 3-3/4" x 1/4" inserts. My Woodhaven plate is not glossy though.

The diameter of the center insert is ~ 4-1/8". Not sure of the thickness. I actually just got done making one out of some thin plywood scrap I had. Fits well but I am worried about durability on the edges. I had to shave it down quite thin. I think after a few months of removing and inserting it I might start getting some chipping on the thin edges. So I'd still like to buy a set of plastic or aluminum ones if possible.

Here's what I made:

CA the edge well and it should help it last.

I'll do that, thanks for the tip. I guess I'll just see how long my wooden insert lasts me for now. Thanks everyone!

With a 4 1/8" ring measurement that matches my Rousseau insert plate. On there website, Rousseauco.com they have replacement rings and also say Woodcraft is one of there vendors.

BTW, my plate is I would guess 15 years old with a lot of use. No problems and it never has sagged with the biggest PC router in it.

I would imagine that you will need several different sizes depending on the size/type of router bit required. An alternative would be concentric rings as on the shaper rings in the attached photo.320171

Thanks Larry, I checked them out. Is the red outer ring the part that measures 4-1/8"

Yes, the red ring measures 4-1/8" OD.

Might be the right insert then, thanks! I'll pick one up.
