Maple HF with finial

Here is another piece I am hauling to SWAT . This one is big leaf maple with an African blackwood finial in my signature style.

The HF is about 4" tall + finial. Tung Oil Finish and Beal buffed.

A beautiful piece in every respect Scott. One small thing that I personally think would improve it some...........that would be to color/dye black that area around the void to bring symmetry with the finial. That in my mind would make this about a perfect presentation.

Others may have the opinion that the "natural void" should stay natural, but I think with the formality that your signature finial presents, that the little step I mention above would add to that formality and make the form look even better than it already does.

I hadn't commented earlier but reading Roger's comment about dying the void I can completely understand. However, when I viewed earlier I though that with this natural defect it provides an interesting contrast to the perfection of finish and finial. It's almost like tearing into the piece to expose the inner nature. It would be a beautiful piece either way.
