Is there such a thing as a hand jointer?

It seems like it would be possible to mount something similar to a plane to the underside of a cast iron slab, with the blade just above the surface, and run pieces of wood over it for edge jointing. For small work, I mean.

For edge-jointing small pieces, clamp a long(er) plane upside down in the front vise and have at it. Watch your fingertips!

Cooper's jointers are mounted upside down. But,French box makers used an upside down jointer with 4 feet on it,mounted horizontally. The wooden bodies were made of a pretty massive piece of wood. In Diderot, they look like 6x6"'s or even more massive with 4 heavy peg legs. There is no fence to keep the wood vertical. You could push thin wood on edge over them just like using a power jointer. The plane does have to be heavy enough to not slide across the floor when pushing wood over it.

There is also a fence that may be used ...

Here it is in my shop with a #5 and an angled fence for making an octagon top for a piece:

Rainbow suspenders? You're a braver man than I, sir!

Alas, I had to give up the suspenders due to an old shoulder injury that didn't get along with them after all these years.
