I turned a bowl 40 years ago in 8th grade wood shop, and haven't done any lathe work since, but have always thought I'd one day add a lathe to the shop. I would appreciate insights as to the value of this particular lathe: tippecanoe.craigslist.org/tls/5150474888

Looks like a good deal to me.

From the photo, it looks like it's in excellent shape. If you wat a PM45, this one looks like a good deal (though I wouldn't let that stop me from trying to talk the seller down a little.)

It does look to be in excellent shape. $800 is too much. Mostly because you can buy a new mini lathe with variable speed for that price. If it was $500, that would make it a deal.

I agree $500.00 is a good deal, or buy an American Beauty for 8 grand.

An important point on this lathe is you can only take advantage of the gap bed on very shallow bowls and platters mounted on a face plate. As soon as you mount a chuck and a blank of much thickness you are out past the gap.

I agree that $800 is high but don't agree that this machine is comparable to a modern midi lathe. For mobility and convenience the midi lathe is a much better choice, for long term heavy use, this lathe will last longer than a pickup truck full of midi lathes.
