View Full Version : Jack Daniels doesn't clean their machines every day like I do!

Just walked by the Jack Daniels booth at Sturgis, with 6 laser machines running full blast. I will try to post links to a couple videos.

Lasers all look like they've been in fires, lol.

If they had some decent machines, they'd be drinking Jack Daniels by now. That's painfully slow to watch, like watching paint dry.

I have no speakers on my machine, but I still heard a distinct "cha-ching" sound...good for them. $$$$$

Snakes alive! How many of those operators have involuntary laser tattoos? I almost thought at one point he would bend down and get one in his temple. aaaagh. But no question, I agree with Chris, the smell of money is there, not just whiskey. (on second thoughts - those tattoos would be voluntary due to stupidity in not following a couple of tiny safety rules, perhaps due to a tot or two many).

My assumption is that they have defeated the door/lid interlock so that they don't have to exhaust air from the systems.

That's pretty cool!

That was painful to watch how slow they were!

Now you know why they protect their logos.
They aren't just making whiskey anymore.

I imagine all the big companies are going this route. Ford , Chevy, Viagra :).....

Very interesting, thanks for sharing! Please post more vids of this as you can...

WOW  cannot believe they are running all those machines doors up! Great way to blind your customer staring at the engraving  or tattoo some hands.

That's a lot of power they must be pulling. Do they have a massive generator or how are they getting all the power over there for the machines?

Nah, no real reflections coming off of wood. I wouldn't run a machine door-up as the lens will quickly get attacked by smoke... but for $20/lens and probably a few days worth of use with daily cleanings, I suppose it's a worthwhile tradeoff for them.

You're right probably not many reflections off wood, I guess I'm overly concerned about safety.

I counted 5 eastern lasers in that second video. All five of them cost maybe a little more than half of one decent 80w western machine. And as slow as those machines are, 5 of 'em will still produce those wood plaques faster than one western will... provided you have ROOM for 'em! ;)

That said, they must be well under 80w machines, because my 80w eastern machine will do what those are doing MUCH faster. It'll even outrun my 40w LS900...

As for their power consumption:

My biz is in my *home*--- as for lasers I have the 80w Triumph, a 40w LS900, a 25w Universal, each with it's own HF green blower. In the "actual" engravers department, I have a 24x32" IS7000, two 25x19 V5000XT's, one Concept 2000, one 14x12 V5000, three 12x8 V3400's, one 12x8 V3200, one 12x8 IS400, and a 20" NH vinyl cutter. In addition to the 3 HF green blowers I have one of their large blowers with a McGuivered up vacuum system that runs to all the machines (except the 7000, it has its own red HF blower) to suck up engraving chips, an 80 gallon air compressor, 8 computers that run the machines and do office work, and various other power tools. In the "misc" equipment, I have central AC, and a large hot tub to keep hot...

About 20 years ago when the machines started piling up we had a second 100 amp service box put in, which now runs about 70% of the business power.

It doesn't happen a lot but occasionally I get nearly all the machines running at the same time. I shudder to think how many kW I'm pulling at times. But in 40 years I've tripped a breaker only one time (my LS900+blower+big wetdry vac). My power bill's equal-pay is $358 a month right now. No complaints about my power bill..

And as to the topic at hand-- I don't clean my machines every day either.... ;)

Wow Kev all that in your home, amazing. Are the v5000 v3200 all lasers too? How many people work with you to keep that all going?

The first 3 in my list are lasers, all the others are CNC engraving machines.

How many people: My brother-in-law works from 9am to 3pm mon-fri, he runs the C2000 and the ULS Laser. Everything else around here, my job. :)

I did a little more looking around at the Jack Daniels booth here. Keith was wondering how they power those machines. Here's a couple pictures, looks like a generator plus a temp power hookup:
