We're having an absolutely glorious day in New England. 58° degrees this morning and sunny, warming slowly. Just had to share this photo I just took of the shop.

What a beautiful shop, Bill ! ..An absolutely Arcadian setting. I hope it's as quiet as it looks.

Me too, Jesse.

How about a shop tour Bill? Outside is beautiful.

Here's an outside view of the northeast side showing the lower level ... 9' clear in lower, 10' in upper with clearspan via oak trusses. No interior stairs.

Lovely. Looks like you have invented the 'bed n' breakfast -build a birdhouse'. Should do well!

Unfortunately, it always seems to attract the wrong bird. Though barn swallows have lost habitation space (no one keeps open barns any more) I'm reluctant to let them nest inside (believe me they WANT to) ... so I have been thinking of building a roof with eaves off the lower level to attract them. Barn swallows are great for managing insect populations, and they are the most incredible birds to watch fly. They simply won't use a nest box of any sort. They want a barn eave.

Perfect weather here in NYC today. Must be even nicer up in Connecticut.

Great looking shop, let's see the interior!

Bill, that is a bea-U-tiful building and location! I've envisioned something like that for years, but for now am quite satisfied with what's happening in the back of my garage. The only thing missing from my dream shop picture is a nearby stream for waterwheel power.

Gorgeous! In an idyllic setting like that, I hope you use a lot of (quiet) handtools?

I'd be quickly exposed were I to claim to use just hand tools. But hand tools are typically a part of my process. For instance, I often split my own timber ... the locust wedges (on counter in first photo) are used for that. I then resaw with the larger bandsaw, and stack on the racks or down below. I also buy local hard and softwoods.

Looking at the outside photos, and the inside photos, 3 things:

First -- Stunning. What a beautiful setting and beautiful shop

Second -- what can you tell us about that big honking mortiser? THAT is cool.

And third - the obligatory............
