A friend asked me to make an urn for her dog. Had some cherry that might work well but it had a bit of sapwood that would be difficult to work around. It occurred to me that it might be nice to use the sapwood as a design element. Here's how it came out. Please excuse the hasty photos. I have to deliver it tomorrow morning at church and don't have time for better pictures.

I especially liked how I was able to match up the sapwood around all 4 corners.
Thanks for looking.

You're a good friend, Cliff....and that's a great looking urn! Double thumbs up on the wrap around sapwood.

The sap wood works well with the design. You did a great job and she will be happy.

I think that came out great Cliff. I use sapwood or other color differences in material as design elements often in my work. I think it is an often underutilized way of displaying what nature has handed us to work with.
As to your sig line . . . "Hey, mister ice-cream man, I've got a nickel, wait for meeeee..."

Very nice. I think the sap wood adds to it. I'm sure your friend will be well pleased.
