left hand threaded face plate for 1" - 8 tpi - or tap?

Curious what people are doing for 1" - 8 tpi left hand or reverse threaded faceplates. I inherited from the local high school an Atlas 12" lathe - a nice small little guy. I don't have any turning experience but want to put a 12" sanding disk on the outboard (left hand) side and maybe also ease into it with building a 12" banjo rim (the musical instrument), and maybe a couple 11" rims. I'm a potter so also have a house full of bowls already so don't have much desire to do that. So what I'm saying is that I don't want to get too invested. Don't even have a chuck or anything for it yet, but seems like a handy addition to the shop. thanks for reading, Jim

PS: I could make a tap if there's a left hand threaded 1" bolt out there - my google searches turn up some pretty expensive stuff.

why not put the sanding disk on the "normal" side of the lathe?

Well, that is where it is right now. Just works out better the other way for me - also I can't really make the disk any larger than 12" on the inboard side to turn down to size since it is pretty much 12" max. Same with building my 12" banjo rim that would also be oversized until turned smooth - there's ways to work around that (router jigs) but but might have to live without. See if you can find an old Delta faceplate. They are 1 x 8 and some of them are cross threaded so that they can be used on either left or right hand threads.

The 6" delta plate has is cross threaded. Check E-bay.

Found a Delta 6" on Ebay for $23 plus $11 shipping, so I'll give that a shot. I may either also try the One Way (thanks for that link) and/or that tap linked above. I'll have to see how things develop. Right now I'm heavily involved in repairing a boat I built so not much time to devote to lathes. /jim
