Must make quite a lot of angled mortises to the underside of two staircase handrails! Any tips or special methods will be appreciated! Thank you. Johann

You could set up a drill press to drill angled holes in the handrail and put round spindles in.

You might find help in the Neanderthal Haven group.

I've used one of these to drill spindle holes in the underside of handrails. Worked fine. http://www.acehardware.com/product/index.jsp?productId=34965976&KPID=18465513&kpid=18465513&pla=pla_18465513

I just finished up chopping a whole series of 45 degree mortises in a table I am building. I made some guide blocks and inserts that acted like a doweling jig. The hardest part was chopping the acute angle. After talking with a timberframer, I found that they normally don't chop the acute angle, but rather keep that angle at 90 degrees.
I have a series of blog entries that document this build. The entry that deals with the guide is http://lumberjocks.com/stevo_wis/blog/43286. Please let me know if I can help.
