I have turned a few Teakwood bowls before, but that’s been quite a while ago, I always loved turning teak, it has something special for me, as I love the look and feel of that wood.

And as soon as I started turning on this bowl, the smell memory came rushing back, it’s got a distinct smell that I like.

The bowl is sanded and polished, there is no other finishing needed :D

Leo -- That's a very successful effort! I like the way the grain swoops and swirls around the bowl's curves. It's very well done and, since it's teak, will only get better with age.

Love the shape and grain pattern of your bowl, and that clear part adds enough contrast....good job

Thanks David for commenting, and yes I agree that the wood will look better as time goes on :) 317752

Thanks Daryl, I guess I’m just a lucky guy, helping you, finding nice wood, and staying at it turning for me, what else can I wish for :D

Thanks Nelson :), well the first part I can take credit for, but not the second part, the light sapwood certainly does add to the overall look and I was glad for it being there :D.

Thanks for commenting Sid :), it is a nice size piece of wood, certainly, about a half century ago I turned a bunch of large pieces of Teak, I was still living in The Netherlands, and I brought 2 pieces that I had turned with me, this was 1967.

I have a picture here of a double fruit or serving tray, it is 14” wide with a stainless steel pillar that I turned and a bearing ball on top that I welded onto it, it still is looking very nice, it should be able to withstand many more years of use I would expect :D.

Nice Leo! Really like the grain structure of teak and the heftier lip goes well with the overall form.

It's a lovely piece Leo...wonderful symmetry. May I ask where you source your teak from? thanks...John

Sorry I didn’t answer your reply Dok, as there seems to be nothing on the forum lately, but for some Chinese cast iron , it is getting to be a bit much, oh again sorry :o, thank you for your comment on my Teakwood bowl :D 317936

Thanks John :), I don’t know where one would be able to get bigger size Teak lumber/bowl blanks, I got some from a specialty wood seller in Ottawa last year, but it was just barely 2” thick what they had, and that was a long plank where I got a piece from, so I could turn two legs for a piece of Danish furniture.

This is the place, http://www.Takethisoutkjpselecthardwoods.com/

This piece I found at a garage sale where a widow was selling her late husbands leftover woodworking material, I got just lucky that no one else knew what kind of wood it was .:D
