Hi All. Just have a quick technical question on a new table prototype I am working on and want some input. Here it goes:

1. Super clean line solid walnut coffee table. 24" x 48"

2. Top to be 1/2" thick .ade of 5 boards.

3. Aprons to be 1" × 3/4"

4. Here is the issue: The table top has no overhand o the aprons and will be flush to the aprons. Table top will sit ontop of aprons.

5. Metal structure under table will provide stability to the top and be fastened to the top via elongated holes to allow for expansion/contraption of the wood.

6. How do I ensure that the top stays flush with the aprons even during movement since any expansion / contraction of the top will show a top the is no longer flush. How do I prevent this?

Thanks in advance!

You can't ... that's the short answer :D

Best option is to pick the "front" and fasten it solidly to that side, which will make all the movement become apparent on the "back" edge only.
