I asked a similar question a while back and someone posted a YouTube video that demonstrates how to do it. And how to uncoil a big blade safely.

[Here it is (http://www.sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?226047-Folding-a-1-quot-wide-bandsaw-blade&highlight=), post #14, posted by John Coloccia]

I have a bandsaw mill that uses1 1/4" blades, and yes I can "fold" them. And the 1" on my MM16.

I watched a video of the makers of Carter Roller Bearing Guides and he was showing how to safely coil & uncoil

I hold mind like a steering wheel, at 3 and 9. Twist both hands either inward or outward and they fold right up. Doesn't matter what size.

It's a piece cake after seeing the technique in action, even on larger blades.

Another reason I love my six foot bandsaw blades, no need to coil them!

Agreed. A couples nails driven some place convenient and done.

I like to impress myself with flicking them into a three loop coil. It's the four loop coil I don't have down.

Nothing to coiling a BS blade or even a sawmill band blade. Uncoiling, ......

I remove the wire twist, toss my 1 1/4" x 14'-6" sawmill bands into the grass or leaves, let them do their thing and go pick them up when they are done writhing around. :D

I still wanna know if coiling a blade for "long term" storage is really safe for the blade.

I know they are shipped this way, but that's only for a few days.

Do we know for 100% sure that this does not cause any problems?

When I shop at Wood Craft, the band saw blades are all coiled in their boxes.
I would imagine that the tinsel strength of the blade is when it is in operation. So when the blade gets hot it wants to be in the fully expanded form.
I do magic with some fine wire. I can twist it and shape it all I want. But when I apply heat, it goes back to its original form all on it'sown.

You think they coil them up the day you order them? Like Dominos pizza, made to order. No blades, do sit coiled in boxes for months, even years before they get mounted on a saw.

I don't see how it could harm them unless you kink one trying to coil or uncoil it. As long as you don't exceed the yield strength of the steel, the blade will retain its shape.
