My white UF spyderco was never really flat and I decided to lap it with my DMT plates. 120 micron xxcoarse DMT diasharp worked ok when used gently and frequently cleaned. 3 micron XXfine on the other hand totally failed and got stripped of its diamonds in no time at all:( I felt that 120 micron was leaving a bit rough surface therefore wanted to smooth it out, but spyderco won. So I am posting this as a friendly warning.
Fine DMT that is honeycombed on a red plastic box actually worked well to smooth out the spyderco. It still feels rougher then before, but I can live with it.
