I just have to share my latest find.
Just a small gloat and heads up for anyone looking for an inexpensive basic pinless moisture meter. For the past year or so I have been trying to justify the cost of a moisture meter; I decided on a pinless type but really couldn't spring for one since the least expensive units were well over $100 -too many tools wanted and too few dollars to go around.
Then last week I happened upon a clearance sale over at Accurate-Technology where they were clearing out their old Merlin brand pinless meters for 75%off. That's right, digital pinless meter with six specific gravity settings, rubber boot, soft vinyl case w/ belt clip, and 9V battery delivered for less than $75 (Orig.$239). This meter is made in Austria and compares favorably to the Wagners specs. with a density range of .35g/cm3 to .67 g/cm3, resolution of .1%, and measurement range between 4-99% (4-20% accuracy range). The one I bought scans to a depth of 8mm, but they had several models listed that scanned at different depths. There are differences between the Wagners and the Merlins; Accurate-Technology has replaced the Merlins with a branded Wagner model of their own. A nice unit in itself, and the reason I happened upon the clearance page.
Again these are clearance models so the selection is limited, but take a look if you are interested. I think they are being pulled in the next two weeks (June 18,03) for donation so take a look if interested.
I just got mine today UPS and I am happy to say it is as advertised. I have no affiliation with Accurate-Technology other than this first time successful purchase with which I am pleased. Feel free to email me if you have any questions, and I hope this helps fill someone's tool box.
