I am looking for a source for embossed glass products or printed glass. Several years ago I bought a bunch of the glass in this entertainment center at a yard sale from a woman who was selling off her husband's stuff. Another story all together. But if you guys leave with another woman it would be a good idea to take your shop with you!! He HAD!! a really nice shop. Some of it now is in mine. He really lost his gl-ass in that divorce. http://theoak.com/tools1/smilies/biggrin.gif Anyway I need to find some of this stuff of the right size for a project I have got coming up. I've still got a bunch of the stuff from the "purchase" but it ain't the right size for what I've gotta do now.

If you guys have a source for printed glass or embossed glass I would sure appreciate knowing what it is.

My google search gives me a lot of things to look at but this time much to much to make sense of and I still haven't found what I'm looking for. I have searched for embossed glass, printed glass.

Try looking in your local yellow pages. The place that I buy my glass has a display of embossed glass. From your picture, it looks like the glass has a sand blasted design on it. There should be someone in your area that can help you with that also.

I have read of a process of etching glass with hide glue and masking tape, but when I tried it, it did not work for me. Maybe someone else has a way to do this that does work. Just a thought. Also, I would check VanDyke Restorers, I suspect they might have something along those lines.

Even though it sounds like you want something "off the shelf", I'm pretty sure you can find all of the materials to do it yourself at a decent craft store.

Another suggestion would be to check with some local glass shops in your area. They can probably custom make whatever you want. Etched or sandblasted.

Rockler has a line of "interesting" glass at only slightly obscene prices. See www.rockler.com/CategoryView.cfm?Cat_ID=179 (http://www.rockler.com/CategoryView.cfm?Cat_ID=179). They also have etching kits and various stencils - see www.rockler.com/CategoryView.cfm?Cat_ID=33 (http://www.rockler.com/CategoryView.cfm?Cat_ID=33)But I would start at the local glass stores - the selection may not be as great, but it may be worth the savings.

if you take it to a glass shop they'll most like "sand blast" the glass. The etching kids us an acid to do it. nasty stuff to be sure. I think the hide glue is not to etch but more leave the etched look where the tape wasn't.

Jim, if you go to the Laser Woodworking forum, a lot of the guys there do this for a living. Keith Outten and others do glass, marble, and even wood with their lasers! All you would need to show them is the pattern you needed, size, etc. and I'll bet they could help you.....
Show us some closeups when you are finished.
