View Full Version : Wood source for a big old beech try plane?

I enjoyed watching much of the long series of YouTube vids showing the build of a large wooden try plane, and thought, gee, that might be a nice thing to try.

But you cannot do it without a couple hundred dollars in tools I do not own, and the key ingredient, a nice select chunk of quartersawn beech, might be hard to find, especially for a guy in Colorado.

Where would wood like that be sourced, mail-order?

A guy on ebay has some for sale. It doesn't come up very often. I think it's the same guy that also has some Boxwood for sale. I saw it a couple of days ago when I was searching for something else.

You can do it with couple of bucks not hundreds.

I wish i could help you with beech, its main wood here. Maybe we can trade for black walnut? :)
