Finished this today (size 7-1/4). The bee design is pierced (one on each side). Comments and critiques welcome.

Sweet!

Hoats are on my bucket list, but I have not had the right blank yet. Of course I would need to do some setup first.

How cool is that!!!! I have to ask, is this your first hat? Did you practice a smaller version first? Obviously this too some thinking way ahead....just too cool and I'd love to sport that around at a show or wear to your turning club! :D Very nice work Dennis!

Steve: this was not my first hat, I have made several (a few of them came out OK). I have made a smaller version only once (as a demo).

Very nice Dennis. I commend you on keeping this piece together with the knots so close to the outer rim...that had to be a nail biter putting it in the bending rack!
I like the bee design...is there a significance to it...or just something you wanted to add?

Not only do I not have the right blank, but I don't have the right tools or the right skill set. Very nice hat!

Well done young man! Those who haven't made a hat on a lathe, don't know how unbelievably hard it is to do a nice job of it. I made one hat successfully (bucket list) and that was enough for me. On to more difficult and nicer things like the Maloof rocking chair. Made one and now working on #2 & #3.
