My son is an Afghanistan/Iraqi combat vet, Army Ranger 3/75. He is working with other vets to help others. He gave me a project idea that requires finding sharp military insignia. Purple Heart, different unit graphics, etcetera. I cannot find "authentic" or authorized material. Any help?

the Question. I do have a Purple Heart, and successfully vectorized it in black and white. (can you tell i am new at this?) When I scaled it down to 15mm I lost detail. Do you have a "trick" for keeping detail in smaller projects? Below is what i did as an attempt. (I use x6)

I traced it with the Bezier
used hairline in black
combined my objects as built them
lassoed and grouped them
then set the size. 15 mm tall, the lock was on ratio, it came out a bit over 20 mm wide.

I engraved it on a 3/4 in copper pipe with theramark. and it came out murky.

Thank you in advance for any help

Roy: Can you post some pics and include your file?

Roy, you must not have a true vector image as they can be scaled up or down without loss. Wish I could help more.
Have you checked with military at base near you? They might have suggestions and source for a real image. Since this is for a worthy cause it might be a possibility.

You may have your outlines set wrong. Try setting "scale to image".

Thank you everyone. Your replies were very helpful.
I may not be able to help very many, I am very new at engraving. If you ever want a theological or psychological thought. That I can help with;:D

Mike, I've never gotten "scale with image" to do anything but scale the image on the screen itself. What goes to my western lasers (both my old ULS and the LS900) is whatever the outline value is. Example, if I take a 2" vector square and do a .100" outline, and hit 'scale with image', then reduce the image to .2", even tho it looks right on the screen, my lasers will still engrave a .100" outline on the .200" square. Pretty thick outline! ;)

Another possible issue with the OP's problem may simply be 'the tool is too fat'-- in a .6" wide graphic with a lot of detail, a .005" beam spot can overlap a lot of detail.

Whenever I raster high detailed graphics, I turn outlines off.

Kev

I think something else may be going on in your program. In the attachment I made a 4" x 4" box with a 2 point outline. I copied and made it 2" x 2" and the outline automatically becomes a 1 pt. outline. In the second photo I turned off "scale with image" and the outline remained at the 2.0 pt. width.
