Has anyone tried lasering directly onto a piano finish?
I have a beautiful rosewood box, and am not sure if lasering it would mess the finish. I can engrave onto a metal plate instead, but I always prefer the direct engraving, it seems so much more "handmade" taht way.

Barbara,
No problems engraving into a piano finish or "ruining" the finish. I just wipe the "smoked" area down with a lightly dampened rag afterwards. If you really want to be safe, lay down a layer of paste wax first, then engrave and wipe off with the dampened rag. Oh, I use water only for dampening the rag. Bruce

Thanks... I was afraid to try it, but now I feel better that I won't ruin the piece. I feel like people can get a box with an engraved plate anywhere, but engraving right into the wood is just more special.
I'll let you know how it comes out.

Barbara,
