I've been tuning up a hand-me-down handplane and would like to know its make. The only markings it has are MADE IN U.S.A. on the iron and toe. Instead of a frog, it has two metal posts. It is just a little north of 9" long and the iron is a bit under 1-3/4". Has anyone seen one of these before and knows who made it?

Thanks,

Gary

At one time a Defiance by Stanley came my way that had a similar look. The handles didn't look as nice as yours.

The handles were in rough shape so I did a char & wax finish.

It is a Defiance by Stanley. Here is a previous post. http://www.sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?214731-Defiance-hand-planes

Yep, that was a plane of mine. Mine was a #4 size. Very lightweight. Handles were a red colour, even after the bad finish was stripped off. They had a one-of-a-kind lever cap, no other plane had them. Not only used it for awhile, wound up selling at a profit, too.

Remember, there was two styles of Defiance brand planes. This one was the first "type". A later version looked just like a Handyman/Victor plane. Nothing was the same between the two types.
