I appreciate your excitement but yet another thread on this single product? What about everyone already following other threads you started on the G0766?

Plus threads started by other members. It would be much easier for those interested to follow one large thread than find out later there was another thread or three that had been going on with more information that they didn't know about. As said above I appreciate the enthusiasm and value proposition this product promises, but the level of navel-gazing around it has been pretty humorous to watch. Every time a bit of lint is found seems to be occasion for a new thread! I'm looking forward to the feedback when this lathe finally lands in Creeker's shops, but hoping there won't be a new thread for each component.

You obviously did not follow the G1023/G0690 threads in 2010. This is childs play. The G1023 never shipped until August. There are a lot of people waiting with excitement upon the arrival of this lathe. If you are not interested then don't open them. I enjoy the threads. There are far more haters in these threads then were in the G1023 threads. I find them entertaining because of it.

I guess there are those who think that reading through many pages of one thread is preferable to a new thread........not sure everyone feels the same way. Thought this one would be fairly short and simple with some info given for those who are waiting for the G0766 and those who have an interest.

Those doing searches on the internet in order to find reliable information about this unit would probably get pretty discouraged having to have all the comments in one thread that would make it so long that it becomes really tedious to read.

Now, that being said, I do think the next threads with actual pics and reviews will be THE one to watch and will become lengthy, but should not contain all the speculation and comments regarding frustration with the delays and all........of course, that remains to be seen, but we can all certainly be hopeful and try to restrain ourselves to the actual experiences with set up and performance as we use the lathe............stay tuned! ;)

That said, I got an alert from my bank at 12:20 today that Grizzly had billed my account!! Woo Hoo!!! No shipping confirmation yet but the fact that I have been billed tells me its coming and Ill be turning on a new lathe next weekend!!

WOW!!!
I see no problem with new threads concerning the GO766, they may be about the same lathe but all are somewhat different in nature.
This is the "turners forum" after all. I doubt that i'll ever own one of these lathes as I am very satisfied with the lathe I own but i'm always interested in any new woodworking product that comes out.
If you don't like threads about the new lathe you can always just skip over them and look for something that is more to your liking.
Congrats Roger, looking forward to you "starting a new thread" when your lathe arrives.

There are several ways to follow a thread. Not everyone sets their preferences to list new comments first because they like to see the context. If you use hybrid (I do ) it is very cumbersome to find new comments that are buried deep. I greatly prefer the new threads.

Count me in as one more that likes the various threads. Since I have been around I don't think I have seen this much interest in a new product, could be as I don't check daily. The price point this machine is starting at added a large amount of interest in my opinion. Will be very interesting to see comments start rolling in. Grizzly should consider a donation to the creek for all the free advertising.:D:D

I have been keeping up with the threads for this lathe and much prefer them split up as they have been doing . Just keep G0766 in the title each time and they will be easy to search for , hate it when threads get overly long. Can't wait to see the reviews start to flow in !

Wow - that's a little harsh. I don't know that I'd characterize any of the posts as 'hate' - not even Doug's above. There's a few tongue in cheek comments, and some gentle chiding, but, hey, we all get along here ultimately. Let's not get all sensitive. I'm glad to hear of anyone getting a new piece of equipment, and look forward to hearing the first reviews - but ya gotta admit some of the anticipation does border on the comical from time to time...kinda like my kids not sleeping for a week knowing there were Disneyland tickets in the mail.

I wasn't getting sensitive. I find it amusing. The Pro PM and Jet as well as the anti Grizzly camps have spoken in many of the threads. The comments were about inferior Grizzly tools(G0766 included) along with knocks against Grizzly CS.

Well, I seem to have assisted another robust thread on the G0766! :)

My primary point is about efficiency. If there is already a post about the shipping and arrival it makes sense to me to add to the same thread. This reduces the Easter-egg hunt effect.

To be clear, I am not a "hater". I have a nice Griz 8" parallelogram jointer that I enjoy using, and I have referred to Grizzly as Delta's replacement in the market.

Just to help in case anyone misunderstands the why of these G0766 threads.........

I did not post for any personal reasons as far as a gloat that I am getting a new lathe. Over 5 years ago when the first Grizzly 18/47 came out, I had lots of people ask me about my experience and thoughts on it......it turned into a long series of comments by a lot of people, especially on the AAW forum.

There has continued to be lots of questions from numerous people about the g0733 version of the 18/47, and when this new G0766 came out in the Grizzly catalog, I knew there would be lots more questions.....I just wanted to alert those who might have an interest to the fact a new model was coming out.......that was for the original G0766 thread.

Then the "ordered thread" took on a life of its own with lots of speculations, etc and people asking questions. I do not, nor have I ever had any interest in Grizzly, except being a customer, but I have had a good bit of interaction with them and good experiences with my former G0698 lathe and my G0555LX bandsaw......which I have had numerous inquiries both on the forum and private messages, plus phone calls and emails.

The number of responses has been quite a few, but this has never been about "Roger," or "Roger all the time" as one poster mentioned.........[yeah, that was a little over the top!.......bad form! :(] My honest motivations in those responses was to give the best information I had, and yes at times my honest opinion when quality and such were called into question.

The actual experience I have will dictate the comments forthcoming in the new thread when I start it, as I have been asked by a number of turners who are interested, who have either ordered or are considering placing an order. It will be an honest review, and based upon what I experience with my unit. If I had not believed the G0766 to be a good unit, I would never have ordered it, but rest assured, that if something is not right or it is a poor performer, I will say so, and send the unit back to Grizzly! [I do not anticipate that at all!]

I notice one post has been deleted.....either by the poster or mods.........whichever did it, thank you! I enjoy the interactions and the learning opportunities provided by the SMC and other forums, and only seek to be helpful as I post about this new lathe on the market. I do not mean to stir up anyone's ire, but I have no control over how someone perceives things or misinterprets comments made by any poster, myself included.

I hope we can all just gain the benefit of learning from each other, and not divide ourselves into this camp or that camp, but know that every model lathe out there meets someone's needs, and many are searching for an affordable alternative to some of the more well known models that are out there..........I think this new G0766 will meet a niche for a large lathe with state of the art features and superb value......

That is the essence of the why of these threads......it is not anyone's parade as far as I am concerned, just a means of information and communication about a new model lathe.....blessings to each and all!

Roger Chandler

Roger: Thanks for taking all the time, effort and consideration to post about this new product! Personally I enjoy your informative and insightful threads. Not just the GO766 threads. Having ordered one of these I am waiting for arrival and know that when you receive yours you will take the time and effort to post as much good info about it as you can. And I for one will be waiting on your impressions after a few days, weeks with this new lathe.

Furthermore as a moderator on another Large site not related to woodworking, there will always be those who decide to post negative things.

Roger keep up the good work and keep the posts coming!

Called Grizzly because I was billed on Sat and still havnt received a shipping notification. She said its already left the warehouse on a UPS Freight truck!! Woot woot!! She said the shipping emails go out in the evening as a bulk email after all three facilities have done their shipping for the day. Anyone getting a lathe out of tis first shipment should know in the next couple hours if they don't already.

Hmmm, I used to work in the LTL trucking industry. Knowing how they operate, my lathe could be here tomorrow! Imma shoot for Wed or Thurs though. I scheduled time off work this morning. Starting Fri, Ill have 10 whole days to spend getting to know my new toy!!

Great news, Dennis.........I just got home from working in one of the galleries today, and had called my contact at the Missouri center, but got his answering machine. I had always gotten an email related to shipping later in the day on other items from Grizzly, but wanted to make sure everything was on track..........

Then I came on here and saw your post..........no doubt we will be seeing some curlees flying later this week! I am a featured artist for June at this gallery, and I NEED to make a few things!!!

I hope you do better with UPS than I did with my new Robust. It sat at the UPS terminal for 5 days 10 minutes from my house because they only sent that truck out on Weds. That's in the south suburbs of Chicago? Know how you're feeling right now. Enjoy the new toy!!

Got my call back from the Missouri Dist. center...........lathe is shipped, and he gave me the tracking number, but the UPS system takes a day to get it active to be tracked.

The UPS terminal in our area is about 35 miles from me.......I plan to go to the terminal and pick mine up as soon as it arrives there on premises........on a tight schedule, I hope to take possession of it a day early. Of course, I have a truck and trailer and the means to get it offloaded into my shop, but not everyone may have these options.

Dennis Collier
06-01-2015, 7:45 PM
Im picking mine up as well. It has to be uncrated and taken to the basement piece by piece. Figured it would be just as simple to do that from my truck bed as it would from my driveway so I saved the lift gate expense. That said, my band saw shipped across the country twice before it got to Columbus because it kept getting put on the wrong truck at one of UPS's terminals. Took me two weeks to get that one home.

Thank You for the info John! I ordered about March 20-22. I inquired before ordering as to how many shipments would have to come in before my lathe arrived. I was assured the first shipment would be enough to fill all backorders but I was skeptical at the time. Looks like I was right to be skeptical but we will see. If the information given Roger was right the second order may not reach down to me although I suspect there will be enough cancelations that it will. I sent my order numbers and such with my request for a shipping date so I hope to have an update today. If not it will be time for a phone call.

Well I called Grizzly the other day and was told that I was NOT on the first wave of shipments. She said it may be on the next round due in the end of June sometime. I also kept checking my credit card and nothing. Bummer. Checked my email this morning and there it was, my shipping email with tracking. Now I am excited again. I ordered on Feb 11. I ordered mine March 25th. Called them yesterday and was given the June 22nd arrival date and delivery shortly after. I went into this purchase understanding it could be August/September before I see the lathe....anything before that is icing on the cake. I more patient than most, that was actually my first time calling to check the status. :)

Roger Chandler
06-02-2015, 12:18 PM
I have stated a couple of times in these discussions that it was my belief that after the initial issues with tooling up for production of these units, and making sure the quality controls were in place, that the pace of production would increase and the factory's ability to ship faster would also increase.

I do believe Grizzly is getting these shipped as soon as they can when they are made and come off the line. First shipment on 6/1........next one scheduled for 6/22, ......[this must be the arrival dates at the port, if it is a "confirmed date" that comes from the factory in Shandong.] Just be aware that Grizzly does not have control over things like storms the ships must navigate, customs and how quickly they get unloaded from the ships...........

I wish everyone good luck with all this logistical stuff, and hope for smooth sailing and transport!

Someone posted about a third shipment sometime in July, so all this tells me that Grizzly is moving on these as quickly as they become available to them.

Hoping to schedule my pickup for tomorrow right after work.

I'm wondering who is going to be the first to put up a YouTube video of this thing in action. One of the wood turners on YouTube that I follow is moving from a Powermatic to a Robust. From crazy expensive to ludicrously expensive. From out of my game to out of my league. From out of this world to out of this galaxy. You get the picture.

Just got off the phone with UPS freight, being delivered tomorrow between 9 and 3. Guess it's time to clean up the lathe area, oh crum, and run the 220. I am going to be busy tonight, thankfully

Roger, I can't remember and too lazy to go back through the thread, when do you plan to have yours and set it up. You got this whole thing started. Must say I can't wait to get your opinions on the machine since you came from the "latest" grizzly to this. I came from my first lathe, Jet 14-42 so thats my only comparison.

Sometime Friday......I hope it arrives early Friday at the terminal.......if so I should have it set up by about noon....might get to turn one small project just to get some experience on it. I have a gallery featured artist opening @ 5pm, so I won't have much time on it till the following week. If I can sqeeze in one on Saturday, I will try......I will give some initial impressions........with all the lathes I have turned on, I should be able to speak to its performance.

Wow, this thing is soooo smooth and quiet!! Im like a little kid on Christmas!! Cant wait to get some wood chucked up on it! I just uploaded a bunch of pics to the computer. Ill get them resized and posted here tomorrow.

Roger, are you starting one thread for everyone to post pics and impressions and reviews or do you prefer everyone post separate from you? Just curious as I have some complaints. Nothing major and I don't plan to send my lathe back but some minor stuff that should be addressed and Grizzly will be hearing from me.

As far as those searching the internet a single thread from owners would make the info easier to find, but if you want to start one, go ahead......I am not the only one who can review......we all can, and yours can be first, if you like.....my opinions are just those of one person.........albeit an experienced turner, and one with past experience with the Grizzly line as well as other lines. Go for it, Dennis!

Darn Dennis, I hate to hear you have complaints. I hope it has to do with scratched paint or bad packaging and not in regards to the performance of the lathe. Post what you can, when you can. I will defer to Roger, but, maybe a good thread title might be "initial thoughts after setup and first turn". Might make sense to then start a thread, "6 months in, this is what I think". Just spit balling of course.

Yes, its paint and packaging issues. Im not buying that Grizzly opened these crates and inspected anything. It just didn't happen. I don't care what they say they did. Ill go into more detail tomorrow when I have time to post the pics rather than try to explain what happened. Minus the paint and packaging issues, Im very excited about this lathe. Its so smooth and quiet. I couldn't stop playing with the buttons. I loved hearing it run! Mind you, this is only my second lathe and the first was a Harbor Freight mini so I took a huge leap in size and quality. More to come.

Thanks Dennis, appreciate the reply. I do know one thing, Grizzly will def take care of any issue. In the last 4 months I got a table saw and jointer from them. Had a small scratch on the front rail of the table saw, wasn't going to call but decided to, and 2 days later had a replacement part. No questions asked.

Now you have me curious as to what your issue(s) are. Looking forward to your post and pics Dennis. I know they don't open the boxes because I have a jointer missing some of the model number decals and I'm still going back and forth with them about it 7 months later. All I want is a replacement number!
