Got some prices on replacing the rotted t-1-11 siding on the shed. Checked out a product called SmartSide , and then came across those steel roofing panels. Can those steel roofing panels be used as siding on a wood shed ?

It's what metal buildings are made from. Many barns are wood framed with the metal for siding. Each manufacturer has all sorts of trim pieces for vertical applications as well as on a roof, and installation instructions are easily found on the internet that shows how it's all installed.

That's how my American Legion post is made.

Are you talking about the corrugated panels? I have seen many shed with that as an exterior material. A bit harder to seal, but that usually isn't a concern in a shed.

The real question regards stability.

Most sheds rely on the skin effect of
putting a rigid sheet over a frame.

There's nothing rigid about roofing panels.

They are rigid as the roofs need a rigid panel to support the weight of snow. you use corner bracing for the sides

While working for an industrial siding company, we used corrugated roofing for siding on factories all the time. Lap them on the second corrugation and use caulking tape, and put lap screw every 12" to 14" on the seams. Also put your screws in the high corrugation to prevent water from leaking in.
