Hi,

Just curious, has anyone here looking for a circular saw with dust collection looked at the Makita fiber cement saw (#5057KB)?

I'm not actually, as I've just purchased the Festool ATF55 on closeout, but I thought about it when I first started looking.

After some research I've found only a couple of saws (PC324 / Ryobi / Hilti) with a dust port but this Makita (and a similar Hitachi) seem logical choices for dust collection, no? They are made to deal with the fiber cement dust.

For someone who already has a homemade guide or EZ smart guide they seem like a way to get dust collection, although at $250 for the Makita by the time you add the cost of the saw and the guide it costs more than the Festool.

I looked at that Makita when I was shopping for a circular saw and wanted dust collection.

According to the reviews, it collects dust pretty well and has sealed bearings for longer life.

But, it is $100 more expensive than other top quality saws. So, I decided to go with the Porter Cable which has decent dust collection, especially if modified with plastic soda bottle.

Dan,

What do you mean by soda bottle, you mean as in an actual soda bottle?

Someone here on the forum did it although I can't find the post now. I'll take a picture of the one I made and post it.

Basically, you just cut off the top of a clear plastic soda or water bottle and use it to fashion a shroud around the forward edge of the blade. That helps to funnel the dust and chips up into the collection tube. Otherwise, some of the dust escapes to the sides.

Chris,

No, no F vs E war on my account. Room in this world for both.

I also read some old posts again late last night and realized Dan posted the same question about the Makita last year. Oops.

Have a great weekend!...now out to the shop.

This is from the Breaktime forum (fine homebuilding)

Calvin.

Have your table saw ready.

The EZ Smart is ready and the EZ Challenge is $10.000.00 and my Fiat/Ferrari.

See you guys tomorrow.

Chris.
The EZ is BZ fighting the "RIGHT" war and with "REAL" challenges. :)
I was in Ohio yesterday for the challenge and I'm still the proud owner of my Fiat/Ferrari/Pininfarina.
do you know the history of the Fiat Spider?
