I acquired a box of exotics from Rockler and am not certain of these four. The choices according to the box label are: Aripin (Chakte Viga), Argentine Lignum Vitae, East Indian Rosewood, Cococolo, Olivewood, Redheart or Tamboli. Thanks for any help you can provide!

almost certain the top one is the lignum vitae. Scratch or sand a small surface and smell it - to me, it has a smell like lemon furniture polish

Not sure on #2

#3 looks like redheart

#4 looks like East Indian Rosewood

Thanks guys! Unless someone disagrees that gives me all four.

the other wood is "tamboti" not "tamboli" - I knew I'd heard of it, but pictures show a much darker wood.

I'd go with olive...you'll know when you cut or turn it - it will smell like olive oil.

I think #2 is Chakta Viga.

I think #2 is Chakta Viga.

Agree. Looks like some blanks I bought a couple years ago from Woodcraft.

I believe the 'reddish' looking spindle is Padauk...

#3 might be Bois de Rose

Bois d' rose and padauk or not choices.

bois d' rose is darker than anything pictured, and padauk is orange-red.

Yes, the box says you get two pieces of each of 10 different exotic woods. Only thing is my box only have 15 pieces. Rockler made it right by giving me a refund on part of the price but it just made it trickier to figure out what I have.

You're right, I should have read more closely. Thanks for pointing that out. Of course I didn't know there was a test.:o

But the reason I said Bois d' Rose is because I do have a few pieces, and when it's fresh cut it is lighter. Or at least it can be.
