View Full Version : Boxing myself into a corner

I'm a slow, ham-fisted woodworker.

Of late, I manage to finish projects - the latest a fitted two drawer cubby for
things to keep in the laundry room next to our big sink.

I measured closely and it fits, but only just.
Door and cabinet trim were removed to put this in place.

Walnut from Glastonbury, CT oak from the wilds of Rhode Island
and drawer runners from who knows where?

(Drawer sides are from Baltic lands unrecorded.)

It's straight, solid and built entirely by hand.
Don't ask how many hours it took.

Nobody looks at Stonehenge and says, "You could get that up in a day with my tractor."

Nice work Jim! Are those wedged through tenons on the bottoms?

Looks like nice work for a ham fisted woodworker.

It started life as a cupboard.

I like it. I have a question though, why is it partly hiding under the countertop? Are you doing a piece by piece replacement of all the cabinets?

Real nice Jim. What brought you down to Glastonbury for the Oak?

I'm building what I want, as I go. The purpose was to house a laundry sink after the first failed and flooring was necessarily replaced. This way, it always fonctions as a bath.

CVWWS and a Craigslist lead. This lumber set me back the Princely sum of $2/board foot.

Good eyes, Brian....took me a while to pick up on what you were seeing.

Jim - maybe a photo of the top center divider? I assume it is a bit late to see the joinery details on the bottom shelf.

THnx...........I am going to remember that detail. Do I owe you royalties when I steal it?

Just save the offcuts from your next visit to the barber.

FYI - the drawer runners/webframe slide onto the central divider
with tapered dovetails from the frontafter the central divider is
glued in place. The webrame slides in (without glue) along
a housed dado on both sides.

I pinned the webframe to the carcass at the front with dowels.

There's a little play at the back of the webframe where the rear panel is attached.

Two days in the bathroom and the drawers are stuck.
It hit 85 degrees yesterday.

Guess where I left my soft faced hammer?

I take it you've never been to Carhenge, in Alliance, Nebraska?
