This blank was close to quarter sawn. The lid is also cherry but not from the same blank. So far it is lighter in color but hopfully it will darken with age. The marking just below the rim are done by striking a 3/8" common bolt with a leather mallet against the wood. Then I apply black wax into the groves but only after the finish was applied. There are two coats of oil, steel wool rubbed, and two coats of cat lacquer over that. The knob is hard maple spray painted with flat black lacquer. Bowl is about 7 1/2" wide and 3 1/2" high. The lid is beaded on the edge and inside the rim. Lid is a friction fit.

Very classy style. I like the up-turned edge on the lid. Personally, I don't think the added deco is necessary given the nice wood grain, but that's just me. I'm sure others will say that it adds to the project. I'm sure that it will darken with age. The peppermills that I did sure have. Very accomplished bowl and lid. Hope I can do even half as well some day.
