A friend has asked me to spray finish his 1x4 WP interior trim and doors before installation. I'm considering a coat or two of Zinsser Seal Coat before the Deft since pine is so resinous. On the other hand, perhaps Deft Sanding Sealer topped with Clear Wood Finish would seal the pine just as well. Any opinions? Thanks

John

Please, somebody must have some thoughts on this.

I use shellac as a barrier coat whenever there is any doubt about material compatibility. I do not know that Deft will stop resinous oozing; I do know that shellac does. Great for knots too. Not a complete answer but, at least one answer ;-)

Defiantly use the Seal Coat.

Deft - or any other NC lacquer - will not stop bleed through of resin.

Plan "A" would call for using some wood other than pine - - - for the very reason stated.(resin)
Plan "B" would be to seal the pitch &/or resin in with shellac.

Since the trim is already installed, time to move to plan "B".
