This showed up at a local auction, and luckily nobody else knew what it was. Made close by in Portland, OR.
My wife does genealogy research and she found that A.L. Metcalfe was manufacturing the Emmert vises in 1898 in PA before moving out to Portland and starting his own business.
It's missing the tilt bracket, so I need to get some pics & dimensions of one so I can manufacture one. Don't know if it was the same as an Emmert vise.
We also found that the Metcalfe vises supposedly had heavier castings, and possibly other modifications.
