This is for those that are on the fence between the Chosera 800 and 1000. There is a bigger difference than the numbers suggest. I took a LV O1 iron and flattened it to 1000 and then took it back to my 800 and did half the iron up the middle on that so you can see side by side the difference in the two.

One thing about the 1000- it needs the slurry and doesn't cut very fast until that builds up. The 800 cuts immediately. The 1000 leaves a very matte finish and the 800 a very streaky finish.

The 800 is 14 microns. The 1000 is 11 microns. You would think there would be little difference, but the 1000 seems to break down more and leave a finer finish.

The right side is the 800. Left is 1000. In the images right is on top, left on bottom. Magnified image (last image) shot looking through a Nikon 8x loupe.

I prefer the 800 to the 1k. Its faster cutting and tends to have less of tendency to load, yet it is still fine enough to jump to any stone that I would go to from the 1k. Just my personal preference/experience...YMMV

Actually Chris I think you were the one and not David who had said that. Well I do love both stones. The 800 is fast, no doubt. It also has a better feel to it, but the 1k kicks in once a good slurry forms and starts cutting fast.

Yeah that was me, not David (or maybe both of us). And yes, there is no doubt the 1k is a great stone also.
