After just "finding" a couple of nails that I couldn't see before planing a couple of rough planks, I'm thinking I should probably get a woodworking metal detector for finding nails before I ruin any more blades. Not looking for a high end model, just something simple & effective. Any woodworkers on SMC use a metal detedtor? If so, what inexpensive, but effective model would you recommend?

This is a simple unit. And very cheap. I've used it for scanning wood. You can set it to be very sensitive to pick up metal within 4-5 inches. I glued a felt tip to it and used it to scan my ceiling for nails, to locate rafters when I applied 1/4" dry wall to cover the cracks in the ceiling. Also great for locating studs by scanning the dry wall or plaster for the nails or screws. Very effective, and cheap. Did I say cheap?

I use a "Little Wizard" metal detector. They also make a larger size one.
