So here's the scoop. I've been so busy the last two weeks that I haven't had time to check in. I had 12 days of vacation to finish my remodel project, AND get it sold. One project was to re-build my fireplace facade.

I had a guy come and design it for me. He is an artist, sawyer, and maker of mantles and rustic furniture. He came up with this design, and sold me a Ponderosa Pine log for $150. He also routed out the bottom to fit over my stonework.

Next came the demolition of the old gawdy tile around the great room and the fireplace. What a pain....:(

Here's proof I can swing a hammer. This is where I'm nailing the lath for two vertical stone columns. The columns were built out from the wall with 2x4s covered with 1/2"ply, and then roofing felt. The top is capped off with a 2x4 screwed to the wall for the mantle to mount to.

This is the columns completed after the scratch coat of mortar. Check out the view:)

Continued.... Here's the finished fireplace, and the view from the deck behind the windows around the fireplace.

Listed the house for sale on Thursday's MLS list, sold it on Friday at 2:30pm for FULL LISTING PRICE!

Great job, Scott! Wow, that has to be some type of record from listing to sale. Nice that you don't have to carry the house while you sell it.
I really like that type of stone around a fireplace. Wish the previous owners hadn't ruind the fireplace in our house by painting the brick light blue :-((
Thanks for sharing! Jim.

:DMy last house listed on a Friday, and sold on Saturday at 10am:D Maybe I should play the lottery? That's why I went ahead and bought the new house before trying to sell the old one. I knew I could unload the old one quickly, and I would have a new house ready to move into. Plus, I have 6 months of double payments saved on standby, just in case....

Great job, Scott, and congrats on the quick sale. If I ever have to sell this place, I hope that I could get similar speedy results! (Actually, my previous home sold before the sign even got up. MLS at noon; winning buyer toured at 2p and committed the next morning...for listing price. Funny business, this real estate thing!)

Nice job Scott! Hate to see you leaving Idaho, however! Though.....I've lived in Colorado but it's not the same as when I was a kid! That mountain in the one photo, is it located in Washington or Idaho? Good luck with your move and hope things work out for you in Colorado!

Ken,
That's Rathdrum Mt (Idaho). Mt Spokane (WA) is just to the west of Rathdrum Mt, but you can't see in the pic. My view is to the northwest. I'm about 1 mile southwest of Hayden Lake (by the way the crow flies), but I can't see the lake. I sure hate to leave Idaho, but I can't stand only being home one day a week and gone 6 days in a row.

Actually, the house sold a day before the official date. The listing was made on Thursday, but specific instructions not to market before Saturday morning. A realtor called my wife and set up the appointment for Friday, disregarding the showing instructions. Oh well, I'm happy:D.

If they both sold that fast then you aren't asking enough.

Congrats all the way around. The fireplace turned out great - a real nice look. Too bad you can't enjoy all the work this winter. I'm sure you're glad just have everything sold. Good for you.
