View Full Version : Need help with wiring up old Powr-Kraft 1/2HP Motor

So I was driving home today and on the side of the road with a free sign on it was an old 3 or 4" Delta/Milwaukee Jointer. It's a rust bucket, but it had a motor, so I'm going to see if it'll clean up nice (I don't need it, but I like making things work again).

It has an old Powr-Kraft (Montgomery Ward) 1/2 HP motor that was hooked up to a switch on the custom stand. Well, I was stupid and should have noted the wiring before taking it all apart. I want to hook the motor up and see if it runs, but can't figure out which of the 2 wires coming off the motor is the common and which is the line.

If I were to just hook it up, guessing at the 50/50 chance, what would happen if I were wrong on the wires and had it hooked up backwards?

The motor doesn't care which is line or neutral.

Make sure you put a ground wire on the motor, it looks like it now has a 2 conductor cord on it.
