I am going crazy trying to find 6" hose fittings for my dust collection. All the sites I have checked tend to stop at 4". even those that sell 6" hose! Web searches have not helped.

I'm setting up my new Grizzly G1066Z double drum sander. I expect this to put out a huge amount of dust. It has two 4" hose connectors directly above the drums. I have a 5hp central vac with 6" tubes running to several wall ports. I have connected a 6" to two 4" "Y" using 1' of 4" hose for each port of the sander. Now I need to connect the 6" hose to the 6-4/4 "Y". the 6" hose appears to be the same ID/OD as the "Y". I think a 6" union is what I need, but can't find one.

Any help finding a solution to connecting a 6" hose to the "Y" would be appreciated.

Check this site out:

I linked you to the page for Y branches but do look around the site for the fittings you need.

Good luck.

Thanks to both of you. I was hoping to stay with plastic, but both of these metal fitting companies may have a solution for me. I have identified a couple of possible parts and submitted e-mail questions asking if I have the right one(s) or suggestions for the correct one(s).

I had no problems getting PVC 6" fittings - the issue for me was the cost. 6" fittings are only available in my area in schedule 40 and they are spendy - I can get lightweight 6" pipe for about 11$ for a 10' section but a single fitting cost me > 45$.

you can get it on line cheaper if you plan ahead (i don't do that well) - places like this http://pvcpipesupplies.com/pvc-fittings/schedule-40-pvc-fittings?fittingsconnectionsize=315 are pretty easy to find

The appropriate fittings for PVC ductwork are all thinwall sewer and drain pipe (ASTM D-2729 or D-3034), which are much less expensive that schedule 40 fittings.
Back east, we find fittings in the landscape drainage section of Lowe's stores and sometimes at Home Depot. If you cannot find them there, check any large plumbing supply house or yo can order them from McMaster-Carr (here's a link (http://www.mcmaster.com/#pvc-sewer-pipe-fittings/=wo0jrd)). Another good fitting for small bends or using as a mismatched piping adapter comes from the Fernco fittings family (http://www.supplyhouse.com/Fernco-1002-66-6-x-6-Flexible-Coupling-Clay-to-Cast-Iron-Plastic-or-Copper?gclid=CjwKEAjwo5OpBRDU64qO07OXq00SJADn5hYnZ zlHSIKeEA6VMSOGZxm27UjKJRFQlawoJnRp1IIJWRoC2T3w_wc B).

I used McMaster......

Underground Sewer and
Drain White PVC Pipe Fittings

Use with water
Maximum Temperature: 140° F
Pipe: Only use with underground sewer and drain unthreaded PVC (http://www.mcmaster.com/#Underground Sewer and Drain PVC Thin-Wall Unthreaded Pipe)

With thinner walls than Schedule 40 fittings, these are lighter in weight and have more space on the inside for greater flow. Also known as SDR 35, they are commonly used underground for gravity-flow sewer and drain applications, but can be used above ground as well. They are made of PVC, which is strong and corrosion resistant. Fittings meet ASTM D2729 and D3034.Connections: Unthreaded socket end (female) or threaded(NPT). Connect unthreaded fittings to pipe using a PVC primer and cement (http://www.mcmaster.com/#Standard PVC Pipe Cement).http://images1.mcmaster.com/Enclosures%20Pilot/gfx/CADIconPrsnttnSmall.png?ver=1235397992For technical drawings and 3-D models, click on a part number.

USP Corp has many items including a coupler (http://www.usplastic.com/catalog/item.aspx?itemid=37937&catid=732) if that will do.

Ron:

I ordered all my pipe and fittings from Spiral manufacturing in Wisconsin (I'm in CT). I'm happy with the advice, price, service and they accepted returns on parts I ordered but found weren't required. Almost every connection found in the page below can be ordered in any size configuration. The product is exceptionally robust.

Another vote for McMaster Carr, once you figure out how to use the site.

Note that they won't tell you what the shipping cost is at checkout... but i've found the shipping costs are always reasonable.

If you decide to go with metal, check with your local Ace hardware. There is one nearby that stocks 26 gauge fittings and 2' lengths of 26 gauge snaplock pipe. If you talked to them, maybe you could have them order 5' lengths of pipe, and the fittings you need that they do not stock. I have had the store order other things they did not stock, although they usually have the fitting or 2 needed to make changes to my dust system. Their prices are right on the 26 gauge.

McMaster sells a wide range of fit type and materials. Generally, their "spiral" line states it is 24 gauge in galvanized. The price seems quite competitive.

Spiral Manufacturing's standard line of the same product type is 20 gauge for the fittings and 24 gauge for the pipe. Spiral does offer the feature of making any fitting end male or female, which may offer more flexibility when designing runs. It also addresses your specific problem which is transitioning and getting exactly the right size.

I'm currently installing the ducting for my new DC system and am using mostly 6 inch sewer and drain pipe. I've discovered with some already pointed out in that the places where you can purchase the straight pipe from at a reasonable price (I paid around $12 for 10 foot sections) charge a lot for the fittings.

Luckily, I live in a state that has Menards stores. And their sewer and drain pipe fittings are very reasonable. If you live in one of the midwest states where they have stores I've found them to be the cheapest for these type fittings. As and example, the 6 x 6 x 6 Wye is $16.99 (https://www.menards.com/main/plumbing/rough-plumbing/pipe-tubing-hoses-fittings-accessories/shop-all-pipe-fittings/sewer-and-drain-pipes/sewer-drain-pvc-45-degree-wye/p-1444448966009-c-9383.htm). And several times a year they have 11% rebate sales on everything in the store, so that's when I buy stuff like this.

Man that PVC is a cheaper than metal ducting. I have been building out my system using Oniedas 26 AWG metal ducting connected to a V-3000. With five drops its getting pricey once all the blast gates and flex house gets added in. Certainly didnt except my dust collection system was going to cost as much as it has but hopefully itll be worth it when its done.

Menard's sells thin wall S&D pvc pipe and fittings in 6" size. If you don't live near one you can mail order from them.

Would you post the city your Menards is in that sells the 6" S&D? The Menards in my area does not sell it, I asked if they could order it and they said NO. Their policy is that if another store sells what you want to buy, they will have their truck pick up your order and bring it to your local store.

Hi Jim. I'm not sure what state you're in but whomever you talked is wrong. If you click on the link in my post for the 6 inch Wye I'm guessing it will take you to my closest store in Davison, Michigan. It shows they are out of stock because I went there last week and bought the last one they had. You click on the link at the right side bottom where is says "check another store for availability" to see their stock.

I checked on this Wye and stores in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana and Wisconsin (that's as far as I went) and all had stock. If you tell me which fittings you're interested in I can give you the SKU numbers so you can easily check stock yourself at your Menards.

I needed 12 more 45 degree 6 inch elbows than they had in stock so I just ordered them from the folks at the Plumbing Dept desk. It's free shipping to the store. It usually doesn't take long when I have to order items from them but the elbows did take 2 weeks.

These fittings are expensive. Try looking for businesses which sell used building materials. I have found the great majority of my PVC 4" and 6" fittings, including Ys, 45s, reducers, and couplings at Urban Ore, in Berkeley, CA (conveniently across the street from McBeath Hardwood). I usually pay a couple bucks for each fitting, or less. They are gently used and sometimes dirty. You just have to dig through the recycled fittings in their yard. I clean them up and they work fine. Another nearby location is This and That in San Pablo, CA.
