Its been a stressful week trying to get this thing done, but I made it. I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out, but I did have some trouble with the color variation between various parts that I wasn't expecting. In the end I think it came out pretty good (camera makes it look worse) and my wife thinks it is really good. Hopefully my brother and his wife, the recipients will agree, which is all that really matters. I am going to try to get it in the house tomorrow night and get a lot more pictures, but here's one to start with.

Update: Added more pictures further down the thread.

Matt, you did a great job. It is really nice. I like the panels in the doors. They are really different. They seem to give some visual movement to the piece. Beautiful. They will love it.

I have to agree with what's already been said, that is a really nice piece of furniture.

I'm sure the recipients will like it and I would guess that they will brag on the fact that you made it to all their friends.

Matt, now you'll have to take a trip to G.B. Russo and Son's (sp?) and fill it up with some wine! It looks great. You did a real nice job on this one. Looks like it has some serious weight to it. Lift with the knees :p :D

You can sure tell that you paid attention to the details. It looks awesome. We all know that the pictures we post are never as impressive as when you see the piece in person, but it does look awesome in your photo

Beautiful job, Matt. I remember looking at the preliminary pics before it was finished, but now the finish really sets the piece off.

The mobile base looks a bit clunky IMHO, though. :p

Looks great, is this the same piece you were asking how to attach the top? If so how did you end up doing it?

Yes it is. I ended up taking Mark Singer's advice and running pieces across between the uprights. They are dovetailed into the sides and run through dado's in the center uprights. The top is attached with screws through those.

Matt,

From a "newish" member here - Looks very clean! I like the stance, the color and I really like the design of the feet and base. Nice proportions. It has inspired me in a design for a hall table, thanks for sharing the pics.
