Some persimmon I cut in early May, was center cut and Anchorsealed. It split within 24 hours. Splits were entire length, can only use for pens, maybe.

Here is a spalted persimmon bowl I turned a month ago. The outside was flamed with a plumbing torch. I bought the blank off of ebay. It was dry and I don't recall having any problems turning it. The finish was a mixture of tung oil, blo, and mineral spirits.

Bill,

Where do you live in the mountains of WNC?

I live near Lake Glenville.

We have a great wood turning club here. The Westren NC Woodturners..

I live between Hendersonville and Bat Cave on top of a 3000' mountain. I belong to Carolina Mountain Woodturners in Asheville.

Bill,

Great club in Asheville, just a bit far for us here to travel too.

I started the AAW Chapter here just over 2 years ago. We have about 40 members.

I'm a raw beginner at turning. So far only had turned a few hndles for LOML's collectibles (all dried wood) The other day I had a large persimmon limb loaded with fruit just drop off the tree. I cut a few small lengths just to see what green wood was for turning. WOW, the curls just came off the gouge like confetti. It was swell, and confirmed that I will remain turning and keep learning!
