Using the triangles noted in another post I wanted to see how they could be mixed to make rings. I decided to make each ring contain one more segment than the previous ring. IE if the starting ring had 12 segments, then the next ring would contain 13, and so on. Since this was going to require segments cut using a different triangle in the sled, all pieces using a 30 segment triangle for example would be one type of wood. The result is not great looking design but I was trying to proves the concept. Now just have to think how to put this into design using less wood. Brazilian cherry is left over from flooring project.

Bowl 1: oak base, R1- 12S12 apple (note 12S12 is 12 Segments using 12 segment wedge)
R2 – 11S12 Apple, 2S24 Brazilian cherry; R3- 10S12, 4S24 Brazilian cherry; R4- 15S15 cherry; R5- 16S16 Ash; R6- 14S16 ash, 3S24 Brilliant Koa; R7 – 18S18 Maple; R8- 17S18 Maple, 2S36 Sassafras; R9- 20S20 oak. Result not really interesting. Perhaps rings should be increased from just one or size IE 12 segment triangle.

Bowl 2 this started where bowl 1 stopped ring with 21 pieces.
Ash base; R1- 19S20 oak, 2S40 sassafras; R2 17S oak, 3S30 cherry, 2S40 walnut; R3 16S20 oak, 1S30 cherry, 6S36 walnut; R4 24S24 Brazilian cherry, R5 4S15 cherry, 2S16 ash, 4S20 oak, 1S24 Brazilian cherry, 5S30 sassafras, 7S40 walnut, 6S45 cedar, 2S48 bamboo; R6 4S15 oak, 2S16 maple, 5S24 sassafras, 5S30 Brazilian cherry, 4S40 walnut, 6S45 cedar

R7 – 9S18 maple, 9S30 cherry(?) , 9S45 cedar; R8 2S18 maple, 8S20 oak, 8S30 cherry, 1S40 walnut, 7S45 apple, 2S48 bamboo. Result more careful stacking rings.

I haven't done any segmented work but can see your patience and talent showing here. Nice piece Bob.

I have been a segmenter since pluto was a pup, and had never thought of your idea of seg # increases per row..very unique idea.

Michelle,
If you want I can send you a excel format that lets you pick and choose segment size to make a ring. I don't know how to post it here,
