Am I missing something obvious....

I typically set my marking gauge using the end of the tail board thickness and scribe the baseline for your dovetails on both faces of the pin board..... A little difficult with a lipped drawer front....Am I missing something, or do I just have to measure the width of the tail board and then scribe the line with a knife and a square? I tried a couple drawers with this method and I'm was not happy with the HB dovetails...Not sure if it was the layout or something else... Any other tricks?

Phil I have a special ground marking gauge that I use to scribe the tail board thickness onto the pin board.. Basically I ground a large flat on a Vertias marking gauge that clears the lipped drawer front..

Hope this helps..

A hacksaw or demolition saw blade should provide good material for a 'Preacher' marking aide.

:40 in the video for a version used to mark baseboards.

If your pin board is obscured, or covered by the tail board lip
the marking could be done with a sharpened edge on the Preacher
and a light tap with a small hammer.

This did the trick. Bought a reasonably inexpensive gauge at Rockler and ground it down. Simple. Thanks for the idea.
