I absolutely despise these articles. Especially the well written and informational type. As I read along, I find 17 new uses for a tool I don't have, 3 of them apply to the project I'm working on :D

+1, Jim. Good article on a useful tool that I use a lot. Don't overlook the sentence that says the blade must be sharp. For whatever reason, that seems to be even more important with a shoulder plane than with most other edge tools, at least in my hands.

I picked up the usage tip of not overlapping the strokes. Something I catch myself doing despite my intention not to ;-)
