Greetings all
Yesterday the Grumbine family (what is left of it, with daughters growing and going) had the pleasure of entertaining the Shupe family during their trip across the eastern part of North America in their quest to see every historical site between here and TX. :D
Martin had called me a few days ago and said that they would like to stop by and visit for "an hour or so". I told him that would not do, and we coerced them into staying for dinner. That turned into an evening, and we got them to pitch their tent in the yard. Upon their arrival, our youngest daughter Emily immediately escorted the Shupe children to the swimming pool, and the older folks retired to the shop where the AC was running.
After dinner, we all ended up in the shop, where despite the AC, it was still fairly warm. Martin had asked if I would show his son Ethan how to turn a top. I did one for demo, which went to Abby, and then Ethan got on the lathe. All I can say is that Martin had better start spending more time on the lathe, or when he gets home from his flights, Ethan is going to say, "Here Dad, let me show you how it's done". Ethan did a great job on turning a top. Now his challenge is to learn how to spin it upside down.

After we got the top done, the ladies went off to their respective beds, the kids stuck a movie in the DVD player, and Martin and I floated around in the pool solving all the problems of the world. It was a great time, and we were sorry to see them go, but he has all of eastern PA on the schedule for today.
We also met Dixie the dog, who is one energetic pup.
Andy, thanks for the firewood. I will see what comes out of it as soon as possible, and Jim, thanks for cutting it and sending along the big half. I don't suppose Martin told you were we were going to cut it here and then I was going to plant a pen blank on him to give to you first as your fair share. ;)
Oh yeah, one other thing. Martin has truly gone over to the Neanderthal side. He is using a rock to pound his tent pegs in, and I don't know that one can get more Neander than that! I did not think it would be a good idea to tell him that he could lash a stick onto it and have a genuine hammer. Never criticize a man with a rock in his hand.
