I've seen pepper and salt mills with a small ring of pick guard material between the top and bottom. White on the salt and black on the pepper. I'm not sure how to go about cutting, turning and drilling it.

Has anyone worked with it and be willing to share some tips?

The material I have is three ply and fairly stiff.

Thanks,

Dave Fritz

It cuts, turns, and drills better than many woods and in the same fashion. Keep your tools sharp and the material will peel off in fine shavings. Glue it up as with any segmented workpiece, then start turning. Nothing fancy necessary.

Thanks Dan, exactly what I wanted to know.

The only thing I would add to what Dan said, is to rough the surface with sandpaper before gluing, then use epoxy.
