Well, that didn't last long. The local news announced what folks have realized for more than a week now....gas prices are up more than a dollar from the low they hit a few weeks ago. Regular is about $3.20 at Costco now, after a low of about $2.19 near me.

Everyone I know expected the prices to go back up, what I get upset with are the news reports speculating on what we will do if they don't, as if they didn't think prices would ever rebound.

I'm not sure I've ever seen gas prices rocket up so fast. I noted 20 cents/day here in the BA so it only took a week for it to be back to 'normal' 'round here. :(

Regular got down to $1.79 here. I filled up yesterday and regular was $2.11 although I burn the mid grade and it's about $0.20 higher.

Our local news said my town had the lowest prices in the nation at the low, $1.59 on one of the days I filled. Felt pretty darn good to fill your car and have enough left out of a $20 to buy a coffee! Back to not buying coffee again now though.

Yup, I am sure it won't take too long before a hundred dollar bill won't quite fill my diesel F250. Just like a year ago.

Gas was about $1.60 at it's lowest about 6 weeks ago. Since then it has climbed steadily and is now $2.60. Amazing how gas goes up $0.15 every few days for a few weeks while the price of crude has been fairly stable....

Filled up today, and it's up another dime since two days ago. My last fill up was in November, so I missed the whole cheap cycle. Plug in hybrid, 1800 miles since last fill up.

Don't ask me about my 12 MPG Jeep, or my F250.

One reason for the upswing in prices is due to the refineries have to change blends for the upcoming summer. This make what is in use now more scarce. That and we don't have all that many refineries either.

What Jerry said is doubly true, due to the refinery fire in California. Between the blend change, the much higher demand for heating oil back east, and the fire, the supply of REFINED petroleum products has been impacted. The biggest factor though? The United Steelworkers Union, which represents the workers at 2/3 of the US refineries, pipelines, terminals, etc, is going on strike. They are expanding the strike to more sites as time drags on.

Odd that there's been little coverage of a strike against such a crucial component of our economy....
