I am having trouble with my air compressor it has started running a long time before shutting off. It has a hard time keeping up the air pressure. It is pretty old 5 HP with 80 gal. Tank

Leaky head gasket?

My compressor is so old it was impossible to find a replacement head gasket. So I made one out of gasket paper. It lasted all of about 5 seconds. So I made one out of copper sheet. Has lasted all of 5 years and is showing no sign of slowing down. I annealed the copper gasket well after I cut it and before I installed it.

You may have a bad reed valve in the head. Sounds like you have a 2 cylinder compressor and one of the cylinders is not pumping pressure.

Sounds like it's an industrial 2-stage, but that's just a guess from the description we have. If so, every part on it is replaceable. This was the first such site that Google turned up, out of a long list: http://www.eaircompressorparts.com/?gclid=CjwKEAiA68WnBRCJxZr5qoaL3iMSJAAXIrr3_s4k5e9 ZtRW1WfXLhziQ65HxNTLwEMVZnuRjS5YZ1RoCVXbw_wcB

First thing to go is usually the pressure switch.
