For me and my 1,200 sq ft shop with twelve 8' floresent lights, one 4' light, it runs me about $20 to $25 if I'm in the shop most every night of the week and Saturdays.

There is a formula.

Count up the amount of wattage for the lights that are on.

example - 12 ea of 100 watt equals 1200 watts.

Look at your electric bill and determine the cost per kilowatt-hour. This is the cost to use 1000 watts for one hour.

(One kilowatt = 1000 watts)

The cost to operate the 12 lights would be 1200watts/1000 times the cost per kilowatt-hour.

If cost per kilowatt-hour is $0.10 then the cost of this example would be

1.2 X 0.10 = $0.12 per hour.

As a "VERY" rough generality for folks who don't like much math, a 100 watt bulb costs about 1 penny per hour to run. In the summer they will cost you a little more because extra A/C will be required to remove the heat that they generate......offset in the winter by the reduced heating bill!!:D
