What wood is used for the Anthony Hay workbench at Colonial Williamsburg?

They are maple.

Yes,they are English style benches made of hard maple. I was there while they were being made. Very unhandily,I think,one of the sections of the top slides open,revealing a tool storage well beneath. They rely heavily upon hold fasts to clamp the work.
