Hello finishing folks,

I mostly lurk over at the Neanderthal forum, but I now have a question that might be more appropriate for your expertise. I gave it a shot at the carving forum, but no luck. This forum seems to have more traffic, so maybe I'll have better luck here.

I have two carvings I purchased in Bali (only one is pictured) which I admit I cherish a little. I don't know the type of wood or the existing finish. I have had them now for about 5 years.

My question to you: I'm worried about further drying and cracking / checking / splitting. What do you think would be the wisest path for maintenance? Some sort of drying oil is what I was thinking. Waxes would be tough given the detail.

I've given you a close-up of where there are very small splits. Thank you in advance for your thoughts!
