Jim,

That thing is beautiful. Me thinks you are about to make your aunt a very happy lady.

Nice Job!

That's a really standout piece of work! Beautiful! Did you come up with the design on your own or did you find that idea somewhere? I've done bandsaw boxes before, but mine look chunky compared to yours!

Thanks folks!

Jeff, the design is from Ventura's book, it's the last design.

Jim, that's a really nice looking box. Like that one a lot. Thank you for showing us that.

Jeff, I believe the book is Building Beautiful Boxes with your Band Saw by Lois Keener Ventura (Amazon's got it if no one else does).

Beautiful work! How about some details on the finish, which looks great.

Thanks all.

The finish is 2 coats of seal-a-cell clear rubbed with #0000 steel wool, then 3 coats of Zinzer brush on shelac sanded to 400grit between coats, toped of with some johnson's paste wax.

Jim, that was nice looking BEFORE you finished it, and it's stunning now. Great job.

Dominic,

It has it's pros and cons. I don't have a compressor or capability to spray which is why I use it. I use between a 1 and 2lb cut. I generally mix by feel/look of the shelac as opposed to measuring. The key is to get enough on but no so much you get drips or other mistakes. I'm very carefull with the last coat.

Overall, I like the brush on stuff, Zinzer put together a good product. It takes less time to build a really nice finish with shellac.
