I have a brand new Helix - loving it btw - but I am wanting to engrave on some embossed leather hides. They are real leather, but made to look like gator. Just wondering if there is a test or a way to check if there is anything toxic for me or the laser in their coatings. Hard to get a msds on any of them.
Would appreciate any info you can share with me. I have learned so much from this forum already!
Thanks

as far as I can tell the leather is oil tanned and run thru an embossing machine to give it the croc textured look. I don't think any extra precaution is necessary. Just make sure your exhaust is in good working order vented outside. Leather stinks pretty bad when you laser it.

Thanks. I may go for it then. I have been using it all day today on veg tan and bridle leather. I was worried about the smell, but it has not been bad at all. We have the exhaust vented outside.
