View Full Version : Replacement "Lock Handle" for Jet 6x48 belt / disc sander?

I managed to break the plastic handles (both of them!) that lock the table on my Jet 6" x48" belt / 9" disc sander. Before I plunk down $14 each for original Jet replacement parts, I thought I ask here if there's an alternative that's easy to find and provides similar functionality.

The part I'm talking about looks like this:
305454
5/16 x 1-1/4, Jet part number JSG96-256

It's the standard kind of handle found on lots of woodworking equipment - the plastic end can pulled out and rotated to reposition the handle without moving the actual bolt itself.

Any ideas where I might find something like this?

You could always just make replacements however you like. Replace the cheap plastic with solid wood and keep all of the metal parts.

Rockler and others have these. I wish my jet knobs were SAE because they are real poor and I would swap them in a heartbeat.

Maybe I'm not using the right search terms, I don't know, but I'm not finding anything on Rockler's website - can you provide a link?

Looks like I've found what I need at Zoro Tools - http://www.zoro.com/i/G0207006/ or, if you prefer blue, http://www.zoro.com/i/G3568887/

You can get those handles from McMaster-Carr in all different styles, shapes, and colors, metric or SAE.
Look under "adjustable handles" on their website.

Thanks, found them at McMaster-Carr also, about the same price as Zoro http://www.mcmaster.com/#6305k65/=voj5d9

Marty, Grizzly has retrofits that should work fine. It's what I've used on my 30 y/o Craftsman 6 x 48 belt/disk sander. I'm surprised Jet's are so expensive. http://www.grizzly.com/search?q=ratchet+levers

Search Rockler for "Jig Hardware"

Years ago I purchased some from Grizzly to replace Allen head screws on a mortiser. They were cheap and was surprised the handles were metal not plastic. They were orange in color.
Most places do not say what they are made of.

Thanks all, I ended up ordering from Zoro Tools, couldn't resist the bright blue handles.. ;-)

I never would have found them on Rockler -- "Ratchet lever" would never have occurred as a search term!
