makita 2040

Hello All,

I am brand new to your group and this is my first post so please excuse any mistakes.
I have a Makita 2040 planer. Of course the rollers went. They literally fell off. I contacted Western Roller in Oregon and they can re-cover them at $95 each, a lot less than what Makita wants.
My question to you is; how do I get the rollers out, are there any special tools needed, is there an on line manual anywhere as I have lost mine, how much of a job is it??? ANY help is very much appreciated as I don't have a clue at this time. The most I have ever had to do to the machine was remove the blades for sharpening. Thanks in advance.:)

Thanks for the reply......I should have been more explicit. I am looking for like a shop manual that shows how to remove components.

This should help, here's a guy who fully restored a 2040 with lots of photos: http://wooditis.blogspot.com/2013_05_01_archive.html

Scroll down about half way and he shows removing the screws for the rollers.

He has several more postings showing the rebuild.

Thanks again. That posting showed exactly how to do it. The rollers came out yesterday and were shipped out to Oregon this AM to be recovered. Hope I can return the favor someday.

I don't know if this helps, I found a couple of pdfs that were apparently internal Makita documents not available for public download on their site. I haven't looked at them, but maybe there's some information in there that might prove useful.
