My manufacturer recommends cleaning these lens with camera lens cleaner and cotton buds. I have found that it is difficult not to make tiny scratches using this method, so last time I engraved glasses with detergent smeared on them, (a good number always ends up with the lens clouded over from the residue despite air assist etc) I slipped the lens holder out and rinsed it in running water and patted dry with lens paper. Perfect job with no scratching.
Is there any reason why you cannot always clean lenses with mild detergent and water?

Here is a snipit from a largeer article on the subject... You decide..

"If the lens is still dirty after using acetone - for instance, if oil was just redistributed and not cleaned off the optic - then a mild soap solution can be used to gently wash the lens. Repeat the procedure with acetone and finish it with isopropyl alcohol to eliminate streaks and soap residue."
